“We realized that skilling is like a vitamin, but finding a job is a painkiller,” says Krishna.

Since that pivot, the company has scaled rapidly. Vahan’s platform now recruits over 40,000 workers per month and has placed more than 1 million people in jobs with companies like Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart, and Zepto.

At the center of this innovation is Vahan’s AI Recruiter—a voice- and chat-enabled assistant built using OpenAI’s GPT-4 and GPT-4o models. This recruiter isn’t just a bot—it’s a productivity powerhouse.

“Our AI recruiter helps agencies triple their hiring output,” says Krishna. “A recruiter who used to onboard one candidate a day can now onboard three.”

The platform functions like a job marketplace, connecting demand from major online platforms with supply from small, often regional recruitment agencies—even solo recruiters in towns like Darbhanga or Rewa.

These agencies can access job listings, upload candidate information, and let the AI recruiter take over the rest—screening, verifying documents, and even holding job-related conversations in English, Hindi, and soon, eight more Indian languages.


OpenAI Partnership: Tackling India’s Language Complexity

India’s diversity is both a strength and a challenge for AI. A simple word like “yes” can be expressed in dozens of ways—“haan”, “hmm”, “achha”, “theek hai”—depending on location, tone, and context.

That’s where OpenAI comes in. Krishna and his team are working closely with the global AI leader to fine-tune models that can understand these nuances. In fact, they’re even collaborating at the pre-training level, modifying models to suit Indian linguistic and cultural patterns.

“The bot must understand regional tones and linguistic diversity to truly work at scale in India,” Krishna explains.


A Human-AI Hybrid Approach to Hiring

Vahan.ai believes AI is here to amplify, not replace, human effort—especially in India. “People still rely on a bhaiya or chacha to find a job,” says Krishna. “We designed our tools to empower those people, not sideline them.”

The AI handles repetitive tasks, freeing up human recruiters to focus on relationship-building and decision-making. It’s AI as a force multiplier—not a disruptor.


What’s Next? Scaling Across Industries

Vahan.ai isn’t stopping at gig jobs. The company is already expanding into manufacturing and transportation, working with large manufacturers and cab aggregators to streamline recruitment there as well.

And as voice AI matures, Vahan plans to roll out smarter, multilingual voice bots capable of handling even more complex conversations—while still sounding authentically Indian.
